The sculpture consists of a cast lead and partially silver leafed dopamine molecule embedded in a matrix to resemble something mined from the ground. Mining is digging into the earth through layers of the distant past in anticipation of locating a desired substance to be used in the present. Dopamine is a hormone and neurotransmitter that signals the desirability or averseness of an outcome which propels us toward the outcome. The title comes from a Lacanian term that refers to ”the constant sense we have that something is lacking from our lives. We are always searching for fullfillment but whenever we achieve the goal, there is always something more we desire; we cannot pinpoint it but we know it is there.”
