Blackbird
Blackbird
A theater set I designed and built for Attic Rep’s production of Blackbird.
Set in a filthy break-room complete with functioning vending machine and piles of trash, the play depicts a young woman meeting a middle-aged man fifteen years after being sexually abused by him when she was twelve. The two engage in a long confrontation involving her continuing struggles to understand and come to terms with her intensely conflicting emotions, which pivot between anger, curiosity, confusion, and a persistent attachment to him. The grid of a drop ceiling hangs above the stage to contain the set and to create a foreboding cage that casts a shadow across the scene.
