Scheunen-Hex-Schild

Scheunen Hex Schild is German for Barn hex sign, a type of traditional barn decoration. Originating with the Pennsylvania Dutch, geometric folk designs that symbolized good luck, fertility, and protection were painted on barn gambrels. Given the opportunity to make a work for the outside of a barn/project space, I chose to create my own hex sign with the usual star motif constructed from six rotated funnels. The funnel is a personal symbol that I see as representing my roll as an artist. Funnels take in large amounts of information and direct it into a concentrated flow.
