Cut Drawings
Cut Drawings
This series of drawings uses a saw as drawing tool to literally divide the image in two either partially or wholly. The cuts mirror divisions inherent in agriculture, which is a point where humans both separate themselves from nature and interact directly with it. According to Wes Jackson of the Land Institute, agriculture is Man’s original sin the point when humans fell from grace by removing ourselves from nature. In my mind it is then analogous to the body/mind split where we remove our intellect (notions of self) from the body.
