Com Tower (Tree of Jesse)
Com Tower (Tree of Jesse)
Made in part to commemorate the San Antonio, TX Tricentennial, this sculpture pictures the building of the WOAI TV broadcast antenna (SA’s first TV station) atop a toppled statue of St. Anthony of Padua, namesake of the city. The sculpture comments on how cultures in general build upon and transform previous beliefs and institutions. Interestingly, both saints and com-towers share a similar function. They both act as intermediaries sending messages invisibly from one source to another.
