Workshop

Within the wooden shed, uteruses are constructed from materials from the artist’s home renovation. Housed with the fabricated uterus(es) is anything used in conceiving or constructing the piece: preliminary drawings, research, process documentation, templates, scrap materials, a drawing charting the piece’s genealogy. Workshop is a glimpse into the creative process, a repository of the passage of an idea through time.

The uteruses and ovaries are built not from life but from cross-sectioned source diagrams/models. They are an attempt to make pangendered objects, to breath life into sterile anatomical models, and ultimately to acknowledge the uterus as a potent metaphor for creation and a body to be respected.
