Echo and Narcissus

Echo and Narcissus

Atop letters that spell WANT rests a scaled down radio telescope with its dish covered in mirror. Echo and Narcissus looks at the dissemination and receipt of information and role of language in the era of alternative facts using forms familiarly used for communication. In Greek mythology, Echo is cursed making her unable to say anything on her own and to only finish others’ sentences. She falls in love with Narcissus who rejects her love. Then, Narcissus falls in love with his own reflection. The myth and the sculpture are concerned with ideas of reflection and repetition-whispering into one’s own ear-the echo chamber.
